The pump-nozzle injection system, also known as the unit injector system (UIS), is an electronically controlled system developed by Bosch for direct diesel injection. It is suitable for cars and light-duty commercial vehicles with a cylinder capacity of up to 5 litres and engine performance of 300 HP, and was first installed in 1998 in a series-produced car and truck.

The special feature of the pump-nozzle injection system is that an individual pump is assigned to each cylinder. The pump and injection nozzle are thereby combined in a compact assembly, which is directly installed into the cylinder head. High injection pressures up to 2,200 bar are possible with the pump-nozzle injection system.

The unit pump system (UPS) is exclusively used in commercial vehicles. It is closely related to the unit injector system (UIS) for cars and light-duty commercial vehicles and allows high injection pressures up to 2,000 bar. The unit pump system was developed by Bosch, which launched the technology in 1995 under the name "pump-line nozzle" system.
